No ID yet for human remains found in East End mangroves

The identity of the man whose skeletal remains were found in a secluded mangrove area in East End on Thursday, 30 Nov., has not yet been confirmed.

A Royal Cayman Islands Police Service spokesperson told the Compass on Sunday that no further updates will be issued from the press office until Monday at the earliest.

Emergency services went to the scene just after 11am on Thursday following the report that ‘human remains’ had been discovered, a police press release said.

“A team of officers were dispatched to the location including the Air Operations Unit who assisted with an aerial scan of the location and the Crime Scene Investigations Unit who were able to forensically recover the skeletal remains,” it continued.

“It has been determined that the recovered remains are that of an adult male who had been in this situation for an extensive period of time.

“A police investigation is being carried out in relation to this incident to be able to determine the identity of the individual and possibly the cause of death.”

Police confirmed on Friday that they had launched an inquiry to identify the man, who had been dead for an “extensive period of time”, and determine the cause of death.

They are appealing for anyone with information about missing persons, especially from East End, to come forward.

The spokesperson told the Compass there is no official public missing person’s list but press releases detailing missing persons and their discovery are posted on the RCIPS website.
