As 21st World Aquatics Championships (long course) nears its end, Cayman swimmers competing at the event have shown that they can hang with the best.
Harper Barrowman set a new personal best of 2:06.36, in 200-metre freestyle on Tuesday, 13 Feb., during her heat – an improvement from her previous best of 2:06.49 – set at last year’s World Championships.
Barrowman started things off for team Cayman in Doha, Qatar, prior to her 200m race. She swam the 400m free on Sunday, 11 Feb., finishing with a time of 4:27.30.
Teammate Jillian Crooks was up next, hitting the pool for the 100m backstroke on Monday, 12 Feb., where she turned in a time of 1:02.19, which was .18 seconds off her personal best, but good enough to place her at 22nd out of 56 seeded swimmers.
James Allison mustered up a time of 1:56.18 in the 200m free. His personal best in that event stands at 1:50.97, which he set at last year’s Commonwealth Youth Games.
Allison returned to the pool on Wednesday, 14 Feb., for the 100m free, where he swam 51.75 seconds.
The local swimmers have yet to advance to the semi-finals of their events in Doha. However, there is still time to do just that.
Crooks will compete in the 100m free, before closing the show for team Cayman in the 50m free on Saturday, 17 Feb. – a race she has the potential to hit the B-cut Olympic time of 24.82 seconds, if she is able to shave .84 seconds off her best time of 25.66.
