Racing under Elevation Cycling Club, Caymanian Nathaniel Forbes placed third among under-23 riders at the Jamaica Cycling International Classic in Montego Bay.

Forbes, 21, finished 25th overall in the general classification out of 47 cyclists at the event, which ran from 5-7 April.

Forbes’ head coach Ken Gokool said his athlete was battling several issues during the race but still performed exceptionally well.

“Nathaniel… [had] a mild fever with headaches for two days and [he battled] to remain in a respectable general classification,” Gokool told the Compass. “I looked at his data daily, I knew he had some issues; a doctor later confirmed he had an infection.”

All that aside, Forbes still managed to hold his own against some of the best in the region and hopes to challenge himself when he competes at the PanAm Under-23 championships, next month in Brazil.
