Music lovers turned out in droves Saturday night for the second annual Out of This World Music Fest as concert headliners soca king Machel Montano, rapper Fat Joe, and R & B artist Ne-Yo set the stage on fire with their live performances.
Local artistes Rico Rolando, Vassco, DJ Diesel and Joshie Vybz opened the concert getting attendees hyped for the international acts at Camana Bay’s Festival Green.
The high temperature on Saturday night was no match for the exhilarating performances of the concert headliners.
Kicking off the main entertainment at the popular event was Jamaican dancehall artiste Baby Cham, who set the tone for the evening as he performed several of his popular hits, including ‘Vitamin S’ and ‘Ghetto Story’.
Baby Cham also had the crowd grooving to back-in-times reggae hits from the legendary Bob Marley and songs from his son, Junior Gong Marley.
Next on the main stage was Hip Hop artiste Fat Joe.
He had the crowd, numbering in the thousands, singing along to his top hits, from ‘Lean Back’ to ‘What’s Luv’.
He also seemed to take a liking to West Bay North MP Bernie Bush as he called on him several times during his performance and even used the chance to endorse his candidacy in the upcoming 2025 general elections. He even offered to become Bush’s campaign manager.
Using his life as an example, the American rapper encouraged the audience to never give up and keep the faith as he did as he referenced his former bankruptcy and subsequent rise to wealth.
While Baby Cham and Fat Joe had the crowd going, it was soca king Machel Montano’s energetic performance that whipped the crowd into a frenzy as he sang many of his big hits, including ‘Like a Boss’, ‘Famalay’ and ‘Soca Kingdom’.
He brought the carnival atmosphere to the Festival Green at Camana Bay, and had the crowd dancing and pumping their hands in the air.
Flags from Caribbean countries, including Cayman Islands, Guyana and Montano’s homeland Trinidad and Tobago, fluttered in the air as the self-proclaimed soca king and his dancers brought the party vibes to the music fest.
Montano, known for his versatility, also tossed in a couple of throwbacks from his early career and even had the crowd singing along to the lyrics of ‘Stand By Me’ by Ben E. King as he closed out his performance.
He said he was pleased to return to Cayman for another performance after several years.
The evening’s festivities ended with R&B mega star Ne-Yo who opened his set with his wildly popular song ‘Closer’. The American singer had the everyone dancing to his music.
Ne-Yo also got the crowd involved in his near hour-long performance as he called three women on stage to show off their dance moves, much to the delight of the crowd.
A long-threatened downpour eventually came down over Festival Greens as the curtains closed on the concert, bringing some relief from the heat as the crowds made their way home.
