A team of eight synchronised swimmers concluded their final session of training in Cayman ahead of their competition at the PanAm Aquatics Championships, taking place in Lima, Peru, from 18-22 Aug.
The Cayman competitors showed off style and slick routines as a team, and in duets and solo acts in front of spectators at the Lions Pool on Tuesday, 13 Aug.
Head coach Romina Giraldo told the Compass that her athletes have been training since the start of the year, with one short break in June.
“The girls are doing really, really good, we have trained hard; they all put effort in this, and we can see the improvements in the routines,” Giraldo said, noting that their routines are twice as difficult compared to previous events.

While the team has participated in local shows, this will be their third international event for the year, having competed in Jamaica in February and at the CARIFTA aquatics championships in April.
But the intention from the start of the season was to have their best performance in Peru.
“The expectation is to upgrade our scores,” Giraldo said. “We expect this one to be the highest in scores because we are better prepared now.”
The Cayman synchronised delegation will leave for Peru on Friday, 16 Aug.
The team members are Maureen Catherine Kohler, Nicole Kazakova, Kate Galatopolous, Heidi Hayward, Lucrezia Scerrati, Riley Skinner, Alexandria Owen and Sarah Trott, who is the sole senior participant.
