After more than two months of preparation, Raegan Rutty is in Mexico City ready to represent Cayman in the Miss Universe pageant, being held on Saturday, 16 Nov.
Following “intense” training including catwalk, stage presence and interview questions, the 22-year-old from East End, who was crowned this summer, is poised to grace the international stage, competing with entrants from over 100 countries.
She will be the first Olympic gymnast to compete in that pageant.
“I am beyond excited to represent the Cayman Islands on the Miss Universe stage,” Rutty told the Cayman Compass Tuesday from Mexico.
“I carry my flag and country with the upmost pride. I am excited to meet all of the amazing women and to compete for Cayman, once again. The preparation has been intense! I have been extremely focused on doing my best so that I can make history for the Cayman Islands.”
Derri Lee, national director of the Miss Universe Cayman Islands organisation, told the Compass, “The committee is very excited this year as we have our first Olympic gymnast to enter the local pageant as well as the Miss Universe pageant, so we will be making history.
“Raegan is a very determined and committed young lady and we have no doubt that with her determination that she will make us all proud, and I look forward to joining the rest of the audience in waving the Cayman flag and being very proud Caymanians in the crowd as she graces the world stage.”
Government ministers, committee members, family, friends, supporters and well-wishers attended her send-off at Owen Roberts International Airport on Sunday. The Cayman community is encouraged to download the Miss Universe app or click on missuniverse.choicely.com to vote Rutty into the semifinals.

Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua will crown her successor at the end of the international pageant which is “a global, inclusive organization that celebrates all cultures, backgrounds and religions … the women who participate in this international platform serve as inspirational leaders and role models to their communities and fans around the world,” according to its website.
