Caymanian swimming icon Jordan Crooks, in his first competition since the Paris Olympics, performed flawlessly in winning four events for his school, the University of Tennessee.
Crooks, now a senior, began his 2024-25 campaign against Louisville at the Ralph Wright Natatorium, and earned his ninth SEC Swimmer of the Week honours.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Crooks and teammates Gui Caribe, Lamar Taylor and Nikoli Blackman, clocked 2:49.23, the leading time in the US to start the season, and an NCAA ‘A’ cut time that automatically qualifies the four for the NCAA Championships at the end of the swim year.
Crooks and Caribe teamed up again, this time with Harrison Lierz and Kevin Houseman in the 200-yard medley relay, where the quartet finished with a time of 1:23.96 – the ninth-fastest mark in Tennessee history.
The fastest Caymanian of all time then swam in his signature event – the 50 free – finishing in 19.07 seconds, the second-best time in the US for the season.
He also turned in a time of 45.67 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly, which placed him eighth overall in the US.
Crooks will be back in action from 19-22 Nov., at the annual Tennessee Invitational at Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.
