A number of storms in 2024, including a strong nor’wester in February and Hurricane Beryl in early July, did significant damage to public docks in Grand Cayman, and some of them remain unusable.

With hurricane season now passed, the Ministry of Planning and Infrastructure is moving ahead with plans to repair the docks in the Cayman Islands.

At the end of November, bids were invited to provide and install a new dock at Morgan’s Harbour in West Bay.

Bids were requested to repair Morgan’s Harbour in West Bay.

A ministry spokesperson said repairs for the Lobster Pot dock in George Town are pending approval of a coastal works licence, which is required to proceed.

“We recognise the importance of these repairs, especially with the holiday season approaching, and will provide updates as progress is made,” the spokesperson said.

The dock at the beginning of North West Point Road has also been damaged for well over a year and it is frequently used by water-sports operators to pick up and drop off tourists.

A number of missing planks were recently replaced on the dock in South Sound and the Frank Sound dock is missing about a dozen planks.

Repairs are under way at the Frank Sound dock.

The North Side dock, west of Over the Edge restaurant, is still in good condition and the Gun Bay dock in East End has been repaired.

According to the ministry spokesperson, government plans to get all the government docks in working condition as soon as possible.
