More than 300 people have applied for TV jobs at Compass Media, following last week’s announcement of a nationwide search for television news talent. In August, the company announced its intent to enhance its news offerings with a new video production and streaming strategy early next year.
The TV talent search campaign was launched 29 Nov. to identify Caymanians who want to work in TV studio production as anchors, writers, editors, producers, camera operators, reporters or contributors.
Angela Sevilla, Compass Media’s marketing and digital coordinator, said, “The response has been incredible. With 24 hours of programming to fill, our content will go far beyond just news. We’re planning to showcase a wide variety of Cayman life, including entertainment, culture, real estate, health and wellness, and so much more.”
While the deadline for applications had been Friday, 13 Dec., the company is extending the deadline to 15 Dec. to give more people the opportunity to apply.
Leading the television expansion strategy is veteran multimedia executive and new Compass Media Publisher Tripp Donnelly, who said, “We are extremely excited about the overwhelming response and delighted with the results thus far. This is building the next generation of broadcast television and news for Caymanians by Caymanians. We have not had television for over five years, so the campaign has brought out not only people who have significant experience in television but many others eager to learn.”
Compass Media currently produces content in print, digital, social media, streaming, radio, and magazines.
Donnelly said the talent search is for both on-camera and off-camera talent, as well as contributors that come from myriad industries, including business, hospitality, culinary, sports, lifestyle, wellness, and real estate, all contributing to 24 hours of daily programming.
At the core of the content will be news, Donnelly said, adding, “We look to develop and launch more programming that is both news and entertainment in the months ahead.”
