It was the sad news which the Manson family had been dreading: After three months of searching and hoping, the remains of their cherished pet dog Spikey were discovered after his distinctive orange harness was found by children on Sunday morning.

Rescue dog Spikey had gone missing from a doggy daycare in Red Bay on 13 Nov., and since then his owner, local vet Colin Manson, had left no stone unturned in the search for Spikey, including using a sniffer dog and a heat-seeking drone, and offering a $5,000 reward – later doubled to $10,000 – for information about the little dog’s whereabouts via radio and TV advertisements and posters plastered across Grand Cayman.

The family was aided in their search by volunteers who followed up all reported sightings of Spikey, but there was no news, until this weekend.

Vet Colin Manson had put reward posters across the island in his search for Spikey.

In a social media post which has so far received hundreds of supportive comments and emojis, Kman Vets confirmed the news that Spikey’s remains had been found and his identity had been confirmed with his microchip.

The post thanked the public for their “support, searching and positive vibes”, and added, “We were so very hopeful his adventure had taken him elsewhere. Having spoken to the neighbours, his body has been here since Christmas time. We are so very sad tonight but also so thankful to have shared our lives with such a terrific little dog. Goodnight our wee pal, thank you for bringing so much joy to our lives, you were the BEST!”
