As the Cayman Islands approaches the 2025 general election, voters must consider the consequences of another coalition government. Recent years have shown that coalition rule leads to instability, inefficiency, and an inability to enact meaningful policies. With pressing challenges like the rising cost of living, immigration concerns, and environmental threats, Cayman needs a cohesive team with a clear vision – not another fragmented, leaderless government.
THE PROBLEM WITH COALITION GOVERNMENTS
Coalition governments form when no single party wins a majority, requiring alliances between different political groups or independents. While this may seem democratic, in the Cayman Islands it has resulted in:
- Leadership struggles– Power is divided among factions, leading to clashes and instability.
- Inconsistent policymaking– Conflicting priorities cause policy reversals and stagnation.
- Lack of accountability– Politicians shift blame instead of taking responsibility.
These factors have had tangible consequences, preventing Cayman from tackling major issues effectively.
HOW COALITIONS HAVE HURT CAYMAN
- Economic uncertainty and cost of living
Successive coalition governments have failed to address Cayman’s affordability crisis. Housing remains unaffordable, wages have stagnated, and economic policies are reactionary rather than proactive. Instead of implementing long-term strategies, coalition governments have focused on short-term fixes that fail to benefit Caymanians.
- Weak immigration policies
Conflicting priorities within coalition governments have stalled necessary immigration reforms. Caymanians continue to face job displacement, and work permit policies remain unclear. Some coalition members cater to business interests, while others advocate for stricter local hiring rules – resulting in inaction and confusion.
- Environmental neglect
With different factions pushing competing agendas, Cayman’s environmental policies remain weak. Unregulated development continues to threaten our natural resources, and there has been little commitment to long-term sustainability. While some coalition members support conservation, others prioritise economic expansion, leading to policy gridlock.
WHY CAYMAN NEEDS A COHESIVE GOVERNMENT
A unified government can:
- Develop long-term policies rather than reacting to crises.
- Ensure accountability by holding one party responsible for governance.
- Strengthen Cayman’s international standing through stable leadership.
NO PARTY? NO GOVERNMENT
Under Cayman’s system, a government must be formed by a full slate of 19 elected candidates. Since no single party has enough candidates to reach that number, parties must work together to form a government. However, a coalition of multiple parties and independents is not an option – only two parties can join forces to ensure stable and effective governance. Voting for 19 independents or a mishmash of multiple parties and independents will only lead to another fractured government, repeating the instability of the past four years.
This means voters must think ––and vote – strategically.
THE BEST OPTION FOR STABILITY
Among the major parties, the Cayman Islands National Party offers the best hope for a stable, cohesive government. Unlike fragmented coalitions, CINP presents a united team with a clear economic vision, strong immigration policies, and a commitment to sustainability.
A CALL TO ACTION
The Cayman Islands cannot afford another four years of unstable coalition rule. Voters must choose a government that is strong, unified, and prepared to lead. In 2025, the choice is clear: stability over chaos.
THIS IS A PAID POLITICAL ANNOUNCEMENT.
