The Miss Universe Cayman Islands 2025 competition officially started on 21 June with the opening and sashing ceremony at The Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa.
Four contestants, Tahiti Seymour of Bodden Town, Tiona Miller of North Side, Genesis Ryan of Bodden Town and Gileen MacDonald, of George Town introduced themselves in evening wear, each bringing their A-game with poise and presentation to a packed ballroom. They also shared their individual reasons for entering the pageant, their ambitions and the official sponsor who will support them throughout their competitive journey.
Supporters cheered their favourites as the four pageant hopefuls received their sashes from their official sponsor.
‘The commencement of a life changing journey’
During remarks, MUCI National Director Derri Lee said the sashing ceremony is the commencement of a life-changing journey for the women.
“Over the past couple of months, the young ladies have been very busy with media interviews, training and general preparation.”
She said the Miss Universe Cayman Islands platform is transformational and empowering, “seeing over the years how many of our titleholders and contestants have become leaders and hold key positions in the community.”
Lee also announced the platform of this year’s local pageant, Jasmine, Cayman’s only dedicated provider of free palliative and hospice care, offering essential support to individuals facing serious illnesses, regardless of age or stage of illness.
“We selected Jasmine as our platform this year because the organisation embodies compassion, dignity and grace for the terminally ill in their last days,” she said. “As an empowerment platform ourselves, we understand compassion. Our choice reflects a powerful message that true beauty lies in caring for others.”
The ceremony also featured entertainment by former queen Anika Conolly, as well as remarks by current titleholder Raegan Rutty, who also unveiled the organization’s new crown.
The event is just one of many pre-pageant activities scheduled for the contestants, leading up to the pageant night on 9 August at the Westin hotel. The winner will represent the Cayman Islands in the Miss Universe pageant in November in Thailand.
