My family and I have traveled to your beloved island for 23 years, but something has changed over the last few years. What used to be a quaint and quiet island has become an island full of motorboats, jet skis and churned up water.
Not long ago, when my kids were little, I taught them how to swim here, I also took my 4-year-old snorkeling right off Seven Mile Beach. The memories of those moments will last forever for me and hopefully for my beautiful daughters who are now grown. As my wife and I sit on the warm white sands now and hear nothing but motors instead of waves, it breaks my heart to know that not many people will be able to do what I was able to do with my children.
It is simply too unsafe with multiple jet skis coming closer than ever before to the shore. More rentals mean more unqualified operators are at the helm of a very destructive vehicle, let alone unknowingly oblivious to the surrounding obstacles that may lie in front of them. I have seen so many close calls of water vehicle-person encounters I have lost track. I have never seen any type of waterway authority making sure people follow any guidelines or regulations that may be applicable and that to me is very saddening.
The quaint island and calm waters of Grand Cayman are no longer available; it is now just a place of water vehicles churning up the tides that we once took our children out in to to see the underwater world right off the beach. So much for the quiet lazy days of Seven Mile Beach and the tranquil ocean.
Yours Truly,
Saddened Visitor
