After a whirlwind month that saw Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce announce their engagement, it wasn’t the pop star who drew Cayman’s attention, but her longtime publicist, Trina ‘Tree’ Paine.
On 26 Aug. – the very day Swift and Kelce stunned the world with their news – another proposal unexpectedly emerged. As brands from Whataburger to Olive Garden rushed to shower the couple with congratulations (and even pitch wedding services), Cayman stood apart as the only destination to focus on the woman working tirelessly behind the scenes.

In a whimsical gesture, the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism unveiled a scroll-style letter on social media, inviting Paine to step out of the spotlight and into the sand.
It suggested she trade “Midnights for sun-filled mornings, press releases for palm trees, and orange glitter for the sparkling turquoise of Seven Mile Beach”. In other words: a “Tay-cay” wellness retreat designed specifically for the woman who never seems to take a break.
“No embargoes, no NDAs, no fans camped outside your hotel – just sandy beaches, fresh conch ceviche, and lavender spa treatments,” the letter promised. The only decision she’d have to make? Whether to snorkel before or after her nap.
For Cayman, it was a strategic moment. “Social media is an important way for the Cayman Islands to engage with travellers,” said the Department of Tourism.
“We’re always looking for creative ways to be part of cultural conversations, responding to timely moments in ways that feel playful, human, and true to Cayman.”
By spotlighting Paine – described by The Wall Street Journal as “one of the most powerful people in the entertainment industry” and beloved among Swifties for her fierce, unflappable PR acumen – Cayman set itself apart from the crowd.
“Following the recent engagement of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, we chose to highlight the hard work of Swift’s publicist … by playfully inviting her to enjoy her own ‘Exhale Era’ on Seven Mile Beach,” DOT explained.
“While Tree has not (yet!) taken us up on our offer, in truth, extending this invite was less about one individual and more about celebrating the idea of balance – reminding anyone working in a high-stress position that Cayman offers an effortless escape where relaxation and Caymankind hospitality await.”
It’s not the first time Cayman has made its way into the Taylor Swift universe. In 2015, Swift was spotted at Tukka in East End with her family.
“We didn’t make a big deal about who they were, and everyone there that night who recognised her respected the fact they were on vacation and wanted to relax,” said Ron Hargrave, owner of Tukka. “It was a privilege to see Taylor and dine with her. It was a family affair with Taylor dining with her mum, dad and brother, just like any other family on vacation.”
It’s that same ethos of low-key luxury that Cayman is now extending to the woman behind the world’s biggest celebrity brand.
Whether Paine accepts the Department of Tourism’s offer of a “Tay-cay” is still uncertain. Yet during a period when brands scrambled to catch Swift and Kelce’s spotlight, Cayman distinguished itself with a different approach: recognising that sometimes the person most in need of a getaway is the one working behind the curtain to keep everyone else shining.
Unlike most celebrity publicists, who typically remain invisible to the public, Paine has carved out a presence of her own, earning a loyal following within the Swiftie community. Known for her tireless work behind the scenes, she has been described by Business Insider as a “PR mastermind”, a reputation that makes the idea of a well-earned break all the more fitting.
“This approach reflects our broader strategy of participating in trending moments while positioning the Cayman Islands as a premium destination for rest, rejuvenation and wellness,” the Department of Tourism said.

CIDOT’s entire budget is spent on paying other (non-Cayman based) marketing agencies to market us and giving rich people free holidays. Perfect!
So, Taylor Swift apparently vacationed here before and liked the anonymity. Great! So do other celebrities.
But, our DoT sees fit to reach out to Ms. Swift’s publicist and invite the celebrity back….then publicize it. There goes anonymity.
Perhaps DoT is being strategic, proposing Cayman as a possible wedding or honeymoon venue?
Hmm, let’s see how this will play out.
