Observed globally each year on 10 Oct., World Mental Health Day (WMHD) is a vital reminder of the importance of mental wellbeing in every aspect of our lives. Here in the Cayman Islands, the annual World Mental Health Day Symposium invites the community to take that reminder to heart with a special focus on mental health in the workplace and at home.
Now in its third year, the half-day symposium returns to Camana Bay Cinema on Thursday, 10 Oct. at 9am, offering a safe space for open dialogue, personal insight, and professional development.
Hosted by Kelly Holding Events & Communications in partnership with multi-specialty counselling centre Infinite Mindcare, the event will feature expert-led discussions on topics that impact us all – from workplace anxiety, burnout and resilience to grief, conflict, faith, and generational trauma.
“The themes we tackle at this symposium are lived experiences for many in Cayman, whether you’re a CEO, a team leader, or just starting out in your career,” said Rhonda Kelly, CEO of Kelly Holding. “Mental health affects every part of our lives, and events like this help normalise the conversation and encourage action.”
Sutton Burke, owner and clinical director at Infinite Mindcare, added: “Caring for our mental health is no longer optional; it’s essential. This symposium is an opportunity to come together, gain perspective, and explore practical ways to support ourselves and those around us.”
The symposium has steadily grown in attendance and industry support, attracting professionals from across Cayman’s diverse corporate landscape, including accounting and auditing firms, utilities, banks, insurance companies, law firms, government entities, retail businesses and individual members of the public.
“We created this event to give people permission – and the tools – to talk about mental health openly and constructively, especially in the workplace. It’s about fostering healthier teams, stronger leaders, and more compassionate work environments,” added Kelly.
