The latest Cayman ‘Band Aid’ concert will raise funds for Jamaica, which is still reeling from the impact of last year’s devastating Hurricane Melissa.
The all-day concert, featuring eight musical acts, will be held at Bevvy and the Lazy Lizard, at the former Margaritaville site on West Bay Road on Saturday, 17 Jan.
Doors open at 2pm, and the music starts at 3pm, when Dan Ebanks takes to the stage. He will be followed by Ratskyn, The Sandkickers, Goodnight Hannah, Sugardaddi, Heat, Stuart Wilson and Love Culture, with the Neverines closing out the night.
Funds raised will go towards the Red Cross’s hurricane relief efforts in Jamaica.
Derrick McKay, of Sound Solutions, who is organising the gig along with Sian Weinzweig of Epic Day Entertainment, said bands had been eager to step forward to play at the fundraiser.
“The response has been amazing,” he said. “We don’t have enough space for everyone who has been coming back to us.”
Weinzweig said, “We’re thrilled to host the third Band Aid this Saturday, celebrating local music while supporting a cause close to our hearts. Having lived through a Category 5 hurricane, we understand how long recovery truly takes.
“Band Aid is our way of helping the Hurricane Melissa Jamaica Appeal through the Red Cross Cayman Islands, while bringing the community together.’
McKay said Cayman has a good understanding of what Jamaica is going through as it recovers from Melissa, following 2004’s Hurricane Ivan. “We recognise, through Ivan, that people need help, and it will be for years and years,” he said.
The first Band Aid in Cayman was held in 2020, at Macabuca in West Bay, to raise money for musicians that were out of work due to COVID-19. The following year, Band Aid 2 was held to support local charity Cayman Animal Rescue Enthusiasts, known as CARE.
