The Cayman Islands Department of Tourism is offering one lucky person the chance to win a two-week holiday in Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac by being its first ever ‘chief relaxation officer.’

The competition is open to American citizens aged 21 or over and includes a return flight to Grand Cayman, the round-trip airfare to Cayman Brac, 14 nights accommodation at The Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa and Le Soleil d’Or hotels and a daily allowance for meals and optional island experiences.

Vacation problem

The Department of Tourism’s latest marketing promotion encourages applications for the position of ‘chief relaxation officer’ to “help fix the modern vacation problem” where four in 10 Americans return from their holidays still exhausted.

“We’ve all mastered the art of being busy. It’s time to master the art of slowing down,” said Tourism Director Rosa Harris. “Here in the Cayman Islands, slowing down isn’t an indulgence, it’s a part of our culture. This promotion is our way of bringing that antidote to travellers who need it most. And yes, if you’re the type who shows up to vacation with a color-coded itinerary, this assignment was made for you.”

The ‘job description’ for the role includes the requirements to sleeping at least eight hours a night (naps encouraged); spending daily time by the water, floating, reading or doing nothing at all; enjoying fresh local dishes like coconut ceviche; sipping island cocktails at iconic beachfront spots; dining with locals to learn their relaxation rituals; exploring nature and seeing rare island species like the blue iguana or Cayman parrot; and ending each day with a tech-free sunset on the beach.

The winner will have to be prepared to enjoy their prize alone though. As a CIDOT spokeswoman confirmed, “The hotel rooms for both properties are intended for the winner only, as they will not be bringing a guest. This aligns with the spirit of the chief relaxation officer role, ensuring the selected traveller can fully unplug and enjoy the restorative vaCay experience.”

Travellers can apply by sharing their “worst vacation ever” story from chaotic itineraries to overcrowded beaches at visitcaymanislands.com/ChiefRelaxationOfficer. Applications will be reviewed by Cayman’s Board of Relaxation, which is made up of Luigi Moxam of Cayman Cabana, Sharlene Brenkus of Cayman Islands Tourism Association, Nelson Dilbert of Cayman Spirits Co. and Kiristen Cousins of Vitamin Sea.

Memorable moments

“Visiting our destination puts you in a perpetually positive state of mind when you explore off-the-beaten-path experiences and discover the local treasures beyond the sand and sea, exclusively in the Cayman Islands,” said Moxam. “To truly experience vaCay is to allow your body, mind and spirit to align and experience memorable moments of peaceful tranquility and hospitality in the Cayman Islands that resonate with you for a lifetime or at least until your next visit. It’s a Cayman ting.”

The closing date for ‘chief relaxation officer’ applications is 17 Feb. 2026.
