The Cayman Islands Basketball Association has officially increased its pool of qualified leadership after nine local coaches earned International Basketball Federation Level 1 coaching certification.
This development raises the total number of federation-certified coaches within the association to 17, a milestone that the association described as significantly strengthening the island’s coaching foundation across youth and senior levels.
The newly certified group includes Kadane Hall, Franz Manderson Jr., Tarik Smith-James, Denton Cole, Alexandre Brown, Orvin Palacio, Borislav Dordic, Samuel O’Garro and Kayah Clarke.

The new coaches completed a course focused on fundamental coaching principles, player development, teaching methodology and best practices aligned with international standards.
The association said coach education remains a priority as part of its broader mission to grow the game, improve performance pathways and build a strong basketball culture nationwide.
Collin Anglin, president of the Cayman Islands Basketball Association, added, “This is a very proud moment for CIBA and for basketball in the Cayman Islands. Coaching education is the backbone of sustainable development, and having 17 certified coaches means our players – especially at the grassroots and youth levels – are being taught the game the right way.”
Anglin said, “I commend each of these coaches for investing in themselves and in the future of Cayman basketball.”
