CayMusicA, the not-for-profit organisation that focuses on classical music, is once again partnering with the SoNoRo Festival to bring world-class chamber music to the Cayman Islands.

This year’s festival will take place from 28 April to 2 May 2026 at various locations.
Originally from Bucharest and first held in 2006, SoNoRo had an aim to redefine the chamber music genre and incorporate unique themes to create connections between the music and visual arts, literature and architecture. Placing music at the heart of communities, the festival has since expanded to venues across Romania and Europe – and now in the Cayman Islands for the third consecutive year.

Romanian co-founder and violist Răzvan Popovici will be performing again. He will be joined by violinists Mihaela Martin and Alexandra Conunova, cellist Valentin Radutiu and pianist Lise de la Salle to perform a series of concerts and provide educational opportunities for students. CayMusicA co-founder and esteemed concert pianist Glen Inanga will perform several pieces.

Marius Gaina, executive director of CayMusicA, said, “We are delighted to welcome these incredible musicians. Although they usually perform in large venues internationally, here in Cayman we have been able to showcase them in intimate settings to create unique experiences for our audiences. This festival will be very special.”

The events include an opening gala as a fundraising event. The event is by invitation only and will take place 28 April.

The first concert of the festival, entitled ‘Dreams’, will take place on 29 April at the George Town Public Library from 6-7pm. This concert will include pieces by Camille Saint-Saens, Frédéric Chopin, Maurice Ravel along with several others.

‘Unforgettable’ will be held on 30 April, from 7-8pm at St. George’s Anglican Church and is by invitation only. Here, the group will perform several pieces by Wolfgang Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven.

On 1 May, the group will perform a children’s concert at Cayman Prep Primary School.

The finale will take place on 2 May from 7-8pm at Elmslie Memorial United Church in George Town, where the musicians will perform pieces by Richard Strauss, Mieczysław Weinberg, Johannes Brahms and more.

Angelica Postu, a musical therapist, is also joining the group for the third consecutive year to add another element to the SoNoRo festival – demonstrating how music can help others.

Gaina said, “The festival is very well established now as an annual event. It is different from our other events, which include our annual piano festival in the fall and our signature Cayman Arts Festival in February. By bringing SoNoRo and chamber music to the Cayman Islands, we feel we have complemented our other offerings while continuing to meet our mission to provide musical education and bring world-class performers to the Cayman Islands.”

Tickets for the SoNoRo public events can be purchased on CayMusicA’s website or by calling 922-5550.
