Participant chefs are being sought for the 2012 Taste of Cayman Heavy Cake competition and exhibition.
All Things Cayman is a dedicated area in the festival that will draw special attention to and truly demonstrate the Cayman Islands’ rich cultural heritage, said organisers at the Cayman Islands Tourism Association.
“Here you will find the Heavy Cake competition, which is a traditional dish, that participants will compete in to see who walks away with the title of having the best heavy cake on the Island.
“The competition is expected to be a great display of fine local craftsmanship in the art of heavy cake baking with cultural cooking enthusiasts showcasing their work.”
Talented cake makers
According to Shomari Scott of the Department of Tourism, organisers of the All Things Cayman area, the competition aims at showcasing Cayman’s culture and highlighting local crafts while also bringing our talented and skilled cake makers to the limelight.
The competition will be judged during the festival on Saturday, 28 January, by four judges and samples of each participant’s cake will also be available for onlookers to sample and decide for themselves who they think should be the winners.
