Gun charge adjourned until Tuesday

Defendant remanded while seeking attorney

Kurt Stevenson Carter, 22, was remanded in custody until 7 February after appearing in Summary Court twice last week on firearm-related charges.

Carter is charged with possession of an unlicensed .38 revolver at Hirst Road in Savannah on Friday, 19 January. On the same date, he is accused of threatening to do harm to Sean Luke Dunbar.

The defendant was arrested on Friday, 27 January and he is charged with resisting arrest on that date.

He was first brought before chief Magistrate Nova Hall on Wednesday, but his matter was adjourned until Thursday because he expected to have an attorney present. On Thursday, the attorney he wanted was not available.

Speaking on an informal basis, attorney John Furniss suggested any bail application wait until Carter spoke with the attorney of his choice.

The magistrate indicated she wanted to keep all mentions on Tuesdays, so 7 February was set.

There is no automatic right to bail on a firearm charge.
