Corrue tops slammers

Singh’s Roti Shop will look to continue their winning ways in local dominoes.

The George Town establishment plays in the next round of the Cayman Islands Domino Association 2012 national league. Singh’s will see its Roti team battle Sea Inn while team DLK hosts Island All-Stars at Dump Road Bar. Both contests are on Sunday, 12 February, from roughly 2pm.

Behind star players Don Myles, Robert Thompson and Corrue Farquharson, Roti won last month’s Jacques Scott domino tournament. The Mango Tree saw some seven sides compete. Team DLK, behind the likes of Sheena Taylor, Kristin Williams and flag football player Richard Allen, were third and reigning undefeated league champions East End Mystical Youth finished second behind stalwarts Brent Greene, Kelsey Greene and Kirby Powell.

Roti figures to have its hands full with rookie team Sea Inn (which is essentially the old Helium/Temperature squad). The side recently beat Kelly’s by six points behind Leroy Davis and Linford Campbell. In addition, the squad has produced notable talents like Kael Leslie, Dorando Smith and Jamie McLaughlin. Smith even went as far as calling himself an elite talent.

“I’m the best, ask the guys in the league and they will tell you I’m the best,” Smith said. “I have great confidence in my side that we’ll win. We have very good players, I take everyone as a big player and as a team we are motivated.”

Sunday’s other match-up sees DLK having to contend with a veteran All-Stars squad. The likes of Derrick Elliott Senior, Marcia Myles and current association president Ray McLaughlin can all wreck havoc with the right calls. Both sides are looking to keep pace with East End near the top of the league standings.
