Cayman’s equestrian scene will stage a big event shortly.
The Cayman Islands Equestrian Federation will be hosting the Fédération Equestre Internationale World Dressage Challenge on Saturday, 25 February, 2012. The show is to be held at the Cayman Islands Equestrian Centre.
The local federation is delighted to welcome Ricardo Rojas of Costa Rica (who was here in 2011) and Mariano Santos of Spain, who will judge the Cayman dressage riders. The competition is open to all federation members who have attained a qualifying score of 55 per cent or above in an approved dressage test in the Mini-Dressage competition or the local federation’s training show.
Riders and their horses will go through a veterinarian inspection on Friday, 24 February, at 5pm with an award on offer for the best presented pony. The show itself takes place on Saturday starting from 9am. A judges clinic for the competitors takes place on Sunday, 26 February.
Cayman has done quite well the last two years. Joe Jackson on Wild Apache won the adult title and Ashley Scaletta on Rambo nabbed the junior crown in 2010. Last year Mary McTaggart grabbed adult props on her horse Partenon while Polly Serpell was the top performing junior on My Shadow.
Entries for the competition must be submitted by Monday, 20 February. The competition fees are $75 per test and $10 administration fee per entry.
