Barnes pleads not guilty

Jeffrey Alexander Barnes, who appeared in the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands on 17 February, pleaded not guilty to six charges arising from an alleged raping spree that occurred in the Cayman Islands between 20 and 29 October. 

The charges for which the defendant answered not guilty during the arraignment included aggravated burglary with intent to rape, three counts of rape – two pertaining to vaginal penetration and the other in relation to anal penetration – abduction, and attempted rape stemming from what was said to be an attempt at anal penetration of one victim. 

Jeffrey Alexander Barnes remains in custody and will return to court on 21 March for a hearing to separate the counts in the indictment against him. No date has yet been set for trial in the matter.
