Bodden Town will bounce back

Bodden Town may have lost in the Digicel Cup final to Elite last week but they are not too deflated and intend to focus on catching their West Bay rivals who lead in the league and really go for the FA Cup.

Several key Bodden Town players missed their flight back from a tournament in Las Vegas on Ash Wednesday which resulted in them missing the Digicel Cup final. That fact and the presence of a Spanish speaking referee, Cuban David Betancourt, were contributing reasons to their 2-0 defeat, feels Bodden Town Technical Director Elbert McLean.

“I felt it was highway robbery having a Spanish-speaking referee because Elite are 95 per cent Spanish,” McLean said. “It should have been a referee from the eastern Caribbean.

“Missing our players who went to Las Vegas was disappointing but I can’t dwell on that now. We just have to get out heads down and go for the other two competitions.”

Bodden Town are third in the Premier League, three points behind Elite who have 31 but who are only ahead of Scholars International on goal difference.

Kennedy Kelly is the BT Vice-President and Team Manager.

He said: “It just wasn’t our night for scoring against Elite. We created the chances but unfortunately we didn’t convert them into goals because as you know goals win matches. We will go back to the drawing board again to make corrections.

“We had five key players out who went to Las Vegas – Charlo McLean, Wesley Robinson, Karl Solomon, Jorronie McLean and Casey McLaughlin.”

The Las Vegas trip was a chance for a Cayman Islands Select 11-a-side team to showcase their talents and hopefully draw attention from scouts. The players had little regret in making the trip although they were disappointed they missed their flight. They won four out of five games, getting to the semis where they lost to a team from Canada.

Kelly said: “Now we want to keep our heads high and continue to work hard to finish in the top two.

“We really don’t like to single out players because we consider it as being a team effort. So I would say that all of the players have been outstanding in the positions and the roles they were asked to play in.

“At the Digicel Cup final our supporters played a tremendous part in the team’s performance not only that night but throughout the season thus far. Our supporters were our twelfth player that night. I take this opportunity to say a big thanks to all of our supporters and to the Bodden Town community for their support.”
