The West Indian Marine Patriots are dominating Cayman softball.
Heading into this week, the squad is 9-1-0 atop the male division of the Cayman Islands Softball Association 2012 adult league. The team has smashed their way through the opposition at the West Bay field on Sunday afternoons.
Leading the assault are home-run threats Bradimir Robinson (eight homers), Johnny Johnson Senior (six homers) and Peter Whittaker (five homers). They have kept the Patriots well ahead of the 3-5-1 Jose’s Escape Pirates, who are led by Byron Bravo’s five dingers.
Currently in the cellar are Donald Watler’s Latinos, who are struggling with a 1-7-1 record.
For the ladies, Cayman National Bank Team Xtreme and Cayman Auto Diagnostic Clinic Stingers are tied for the lead at 2-1. Caledonian Group Services Wildcats are lagging behind at 1-3, despite boasting slugger Samantha Ebanks (whose two homers top all ladies).
Matches continue this month with the ladies playing at the George Town Field of Dreams facility on Saturdays at 8pm while the men compete in West Bay on Sundays at 2.30pm. For the ladies, the regular season is slated to end in June with the finals wrapping up by early July while the men will finish in late October/early November.
