The 2012 Butterfield Young Musician of the Year competition comes to its climax on Saturday, 2 June.
It’s held at Triple C School Hall on Fairbanks Road from 6.30pm, we’re told. We are also told that it was a very tough decision to whittle the initial long list of 20 down to the final 10 who will be performing on the night. Standards, say judges, are higher than they ever have been before.
The finalists are as follows:
Philip Bent (percussion) – John Gray High School
Veronique St-Cyr (voice) – St. Ignatius
Jaide Dixon (voice) – Clifton Hunter High School
Renita Barnes (steel pan) – University College of the Cayman Islands
Kavi Saravanan (piano) – Cayman Music School
Rachel Boyd Moss (cello) – Cayman Prep and High School
Nayil Arana (violin) – Home Schooled
Duncan Anderson (brass) – St. Ignatius
Alexandria Franklin (flute) – St. Ignatius
Keeley-Shaye Ebanks (flute) – St. Ignatius
Judges John McLaughlin-Williams and Glen Inanga will both also be performing as will Kirsten Stroup & Melissa Jackson of Wesleyan Christian Academy.
All participants will receive a participation trophy at the end of the competition.
The judges will announce the first, second and third place winners. Representatives from Butterfield will present trophies and cash prizes to the three students chosen as the best.
It looks set to be a great indication of the future talent Cayman has to offer.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for children.
