The 2026 Inter-Secondary Athletics Championships concluded on 5 March at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex, giving rise to a three-peat champion.

Following four days of competition that began on 2 March, John Gray High School rose to top in the large schools category, securing its third consecutive overall title, having previously won the championships in 2024 and 2025.

The school maintained its dominance by winning both the male and female championship divisions, accumulating the highest point totals in both categories.

John Gray’s acting subject leader of physical education, Aaron Pollard, confirmed that 80 of the school’s 104 competing athletes finished the meet as medalists.

Completing the podium placements were Clifton Hunter High School who finished the competition in second place, while Cayman Prep took third.

The small schools division saw Layman E. Scott Sr. High School claim the top spot on the podium followed by Cayman Academy in second place, and CF School rounding out as third.

Victrix and Victor Ludorum winners

Individual honours were largely dominated by John Gray High School athletes, with Akhila Gooden named Victrix Ludorum and Jaysean Seymour earning the title of Victor Ludorum.

Seymour, 16, reflecting on the accomplishment said, “Winning Victor Ludorum for my final year in high school feels amazing. I’ve won this coveted title four times in my high school career and it’s a true testament to my dedication to track.”

Gooden, just 12 years old, expressed her pride in winning the Victrix Ludorum award “as a Year 7 student at JGHS”.

“It represents the hard work and discipline that went into my training throughout the season so far. I’m grateful to my coach Ms. Bent, my Falcon teammates and family who continue to support and push me to be better every day. This achievement motivates me to keep striving for excellence and to keep working toward even greater goals in the future,” Gooden said.

Division champions named

In the age-specific division championships, Akhila Gooden of John Gray topped the under-13 girls’ category, while Izayah Wellington of Clifton Hunter High School took first for the boys.

The under-15 division saw a sweep by John Gray, with Daniqua Howell and Aaron Edi finishing as the top girl and boy, respectively.

This trend continued for John Gray in the under-17 division as Jeleah Maize secured the top spot for the girls and Jaysean Seymour followed suit for the boys.

Nakeelah Ferguson of John Gray won the under-20 girls’ division, while Luke Garbarino of St. Ignatius took first place for the boys.

In the open division, the girls’ title resulted in a tie between Miel Pemberton of John Gray and Saige Smith of CIFEC while Jah’Mauri Watkis of John Gray finished at the top of the boys’ division.
