The students at all levels of John Gray High School are now in the final stages of rehearsals for a production of the play, ‘The Addams Family’.
The show tells a story that celebrates family, unity and unconditional love – with a delightfully quirky twist.
Audiences will join the characters Gomez, Morticia and Wednesday Addams as their eccentric ways collide with the everyday world, bringing chaos, hilarity and plenty of good old-fashioned fun. It’s a celebration that every family is beautifully created in its own way.
The production is entirely student led. Year 11 drama student Jazmyn Ramsay takes on the led role of Gomez Addams, leading a cast and crew of more than 60 students from across all year groups.
Year 11 drama student Najha Iton is the stage manager. Music teacher Jonelle Ebanks is leading the music with John Gray’s steel pan players joining as well.
Julia Watkins, subject leader for drama and choreographer, says, “There is nothing more special than a school musical production, which plays a unique and invaluable role in students’ education. These are the memories they will carry with them forever. It cultivates creativity, builds confidence and empathy, but most importantly, teaches the performance skills that will shape the future of theatre in the Cayman Islands, empowering and inspiring the next generation of creative students.”
Director Lesley-Ann Bernard adds her expertise to the production.
“Every child has the right to experience this type of theatre,” she says. “The collaborative work required to do this will be a life-changing experience for them. They are acquiring skills sets that will take them beyond the stage. It’s beautiful to watch. I am truly proud of them.”
The play will run from 3-5 Feb at 7pm. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for children and students and can be purchased from the main reception during school hours, through the school’s business department or through the John Gray High School Key Club team.
