Jane van der Bol, executive director of the tourism association, said, “We are looking for some of the strong leaders from within CITA membership who wish to help steer the future of tourism in the Cayman Islands”.
Nominations are due by 4pm on 18 March, with the board election taking place at the association’s annual general meeting from 3 to 5pm on 17 April at the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort. A cocktail reception will follow.
There are 10 seats open out of the 14 seats on the board. The following board members will be serving their second term in 2013/14, as they received the highest votes in the last election:
Sherry Lee (condo/villa)
Brian Krug (transportation)
Steven Hayes (restaurants)
Ken Hydes (cruise)
Any association member business in good standing, and that has been a member for at least one year, is eligible to be nominated for a board of directors position, with the support of five member signatures.
There are 14 board seats available representing various sectors, including hotel, condo/villa, water sports, transportation, restaurants, cruise, Sister Islands and allied sector, which represents numerous businesses in the community that are directly or indirectly supported by tourism (e.g. retailers, developers, wholesalers etc.)
Directors set goals for the upcoming membership year, while working closely with government to tackle issues such as safety, air arrivals, tourism product development, cost of doing business and education. The group also works alongside government’s Department of Tourism on international destination promotions that promote association member businesses and the Cayman Islands.
The annual general meeting will feature the association’s annual report presented by Ms van der Bol, as well as reports by the board members, treasurer and a speech by the president.
The elections take place at the beginning of the meeting, when members cast their votes for the final selection of the 2013/14 board of directors.
During the presentations, the votes are tallied behind the scenes, and at the end of the meeting, the new board is announced.
Attendees will also have an opportunity to “mix n’ mingle” after the meeting’s adjournment during a small cocktail reception.
The tourism association encourages businesses to become a member and help contribute to the success of tourism in the Cayman Islands.
“We welcome businesses in the community that would like to learn more about the CITA to attend the annual general meeting in order to get a better sense of what the association is all about. We also encourage you to ask our members and staff about the association and about the benefits of CITA membership,” Ms van der Bol said.
