Hot Shots burning up

The Home Gas “Hot Shots” were on cruise control as they defeated Lindsay Fiduciary Services 11-2.

LFS pitchers had difficulty finding the strike zone last Saturday and the Home Gas hitters showed patience at the plate while LFS issued an unlucky 13 walks during the game at the Field of Dreams facility.

Jevon Forbes walked four times and scored three runs and Miguel Rodriguez scored twice on two walks and a triple. Two runs each were also scored by Julian Menko on a walk and a hit and by Finnegan Huffington who went four for four at the plate with a single, two doubles and a triple. Daniel Reid hit two singles and scored a run and Kevin Weber scored a run on a single and a walk.

Home Gas flamethrower Finnegan Huffington pitched a complete game with four scoreless innings while striking out 12 of the 20 batters he faced.

LFS, plagued by injuries to several key players, had notable performances mostly in the field. Marquise Manahan electrified the LFS faithful with a well-executed catch at the fence in centre field.

Left fielder Alaye McLaughlin turned a neat double play on a throw to second baseman Roberth Davis and newcomer Christian Merren showed his wares as he played catcher and pitcher and also hit a triple that was only a couple feet shy of going over the fence. The Financiers’ two runs were scored by Omar Sanchez and Christian Dube.

For Home Gas, it was a perfect week of baseball as the Hot Shots scorched Popeye’s 12-7 last Tuesday. Jonah Pierre drove in the first two runs on a well-hit double and Piers Davies went three for three at the plate with two doubles and a two-run home run. Ahmaree Piercy scored two inside the park homers and rookie third baseman Piat Coulbourne had two put outs, including the game-ending play.

Popeye’s started out strong and enjoyed the early lead until the end of the second inning. They continued to battle away after losing the lead in the third. Pablo Bertran hit a three-run, inside the park homer, Francisco “Dido” Fuentes hit a RBI triple, and Dane ‘Scrappy Doo’ Muspratt hit two singles and a double in three plate appearances.

Popeye’s also had a couple of great defensive plays that saw centre fielder Jesse ‘The Big Unit’ Jackson tracking the ball in the outfield to make a spectacular catch and second baseman Bertran successfully turning an inning-ending double play.

At the end of the first round, the AAA standings see 3-0 Home Gas ahead of 1-2 LFS and 0-2 Popeyes. Matches continue on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 6.30 to 8pm.
