TIMS putt in Catholic birdies

The fourth annual St. Ignatius Church and School Golf Scramble stormed into action at the North Sound Golf Club. Some 22 players enjoyed clear skies, southerly breezes and some hot competition on the golf course.

The winning team was TIMS with a net score of 51.74. The squad consisted of Robin Holmes, Eddie Ballantyne, Stevie Fleming and Erick Barkinge. Second place was Maples and Calder with a net score of 52 and that side had Hugh Thompson, Martin Livingston, Peter Embleton and Russell Burt.

Third place was BCQS Property Management with a net score of 53.5 and that team saw Michael Baulk, Richelle Woodcock, Jeremy Superfine and Ben Cummings. All three teams won gift vouchers from the pro shop.

Closest to the pin winners were Stevie Fleming on No. 9 and Jim Owen on No. 13. Longest drive winners were Collen Artuch for the ladies on No. 2 and Jason Lovelock for the men on hole 12. Richard Reading won the putting contest, leaving his ball less than a foot away on a 60-foot downhill putt last Friday.

BCQS Property Management won the prize for the best dressed team. “The Duffers” team had the highest score of the day, earning them a free round of golf courtesy of the North Sound Club.

John Collins, Peter Bigwood, Richard Reading and Mick Whyte split the jackpot for being the nearest to guess that 29 golf balls would end up in the water on No. 5. Jon Marsh and Tony DeQuintal split the jackpot for correctly guessing that 27 tee shots would find the green on No. 1.

Following the competition, the golfers received awards and raffle prizes and everyone was treated to a buffet dinner.

St. Ignatius Community Liaison Coordinator Jeremy Rice said he was pleased with the event, which raised nearly $7,000 for the school and church facilities’ development fund. It is anticipated that the annual scramble will take place again next March.
