Crusaders will stomp out Devils

Five-a-side football is reaching its crescendo for the 2013-2014 season.

Kings Sports Center is approaching the final leg of its current indoor league. The playoffs start on Monday, Jan. 6. The regular season winners are Cayman Free Press Buzz Crusaders, who ended their campaign with six wins. Right on their trail were CML and KPMG Titans, both ended the season with five wins. Monday features Crusaders facing the Dominion Devils at 7:30 p.m. The postseason continues on Wednesday, Jan. 8, with CML facing PwC at 7:30 p.m. and the Titans taking on office rivals KPMG at 8:30 p.m.

Kings director assistant André Morgan said those matches will be unpredictable.

“Hopefully, all the guys didn’t have too much cake, sorrel and ham over the Christmas break,” Morgan said. “No Xq’s, our newcomers to the league, found it hard to secure wins. Even when they played great games. Now we are at the part that really matters: playoffs. It doesn’t matter how many games you’ve won or lost this season, this is what it really comes down to, who will be the winners this year?

“Expectations for these matches are it should be close for all three games, especially Buzz and Devils. Crusaders are the top team in the league and Devils are one of the most competent and capable teams we’ve seen so far.”

The Crusaders are a veteran team who boast stalwarts like Ray Hydes, Bobby Hydes and Davey McLaughlin with Dominion producing talents like Leigh Hipkins in recent months. CML are perennial contenders with the likes of Des Harris while the Titans feature players such as Fabio Smith.

After the playoffs wrap up this month, the 2014 winter season is slated to start on Feb. 16. The captains meeting will be held in the coming weeks at the No. 1 sports bar on Island, Beaches. Those looking to join the league can stop by Kings at anytime, fill out the team registration form and team roster and make the payment. Registration runs until Feb. 9. Kings will not be accepting teams after the registration deadline so interested persons are asked to sign up as early as possible.
