The National Council for Volunteer Organisations’ New to You Bargain Shop has a new look thanks to staff at Citco, a financial services company in Cayman.
Volunteering two Saturdays of their time, Citco teams rearranged and fixed up the inside and painted the outside of the building at 90 Anthony Drive, George Town.
NCVO Coordinator Alta Bodden Solomon thanked the Citco members for giving back to the community through volunteering and also funding for supplies. “It just goes to show the commitment of outreach encouraged by businesses and individuals within Cayman,” she said.
“As a global organization, Citco is proud to give back to local communities where our employees live and work. Our volunteers enjoyed giving their time to this effort and look forward to further outreach programs in our community,” said Wiekert Weber, coordinator of the Citco Community Service Committee.
The shop is open Monday to Friday 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Clothing and other items are donated and sold for low prices to generate income. It operates mainly on a volunteer basis and The Pink Ladies Volunteer Corps assists with the staffing. Funds generated through sales go back into NCVO’s projects.
Items of clothing, furniture and appliances are also donated to needy cases throughout the community.
