Stingray Swim Club is planning a fundraising wine dinner at Grand Old House with winemaker Tamara Flores Perez.
The evening will feature modern Latin American cuisine and wines against the backdrop of a Bossa Nova band and the Caribbean sea. Stingray Swim Club is putting on the spectacle, titled Comida Latino!, on March 25 at 7 p.m. As club vice president Peter Plunkett explains, it is a time to showcase fine dining for a worthy cause.
“This wonderful opportunity was brought to us by Blackbeard’s Trading Company – part of the Cayman Distributor Group of companies,” Plunkett said. “We are looking forward to an evening of wonderful food and wine and knowing that we are raising funds for Stingray’s swim programs will make the food and wine taste all the better.”
Many of Stingray swimmers are currently in training for the XXIX CARIFTA 50 Meter Pool and Open Water Swimming Championships in Savaneta, Aruba on April 20-27. Club members are coming off a dazzling performance at the inaugural Cayman Islands Amateur Swimming Association National Championships in February, as Stingray youngsters set 13 of the 23 new local records at the meet.
Tuesday’s one-of-a kind dinner is organized around the visit of Flores Perez – commercial director for Trivento and Palo Alto wineries – and will start with a tapas and Tribento Brut Nature reception at 7 p.m. It will then move to an dinner menu of pastelitos con carne with micro greens, mixed grill with chimichurri, grilled vegetables, cajuzinho and manjar branco. Each course will be served with wines from Argentina and Chile and each wine will be presented by Flores Perez in Spanish and English.
Cost for the evening is $125 per person, with proceeds benefiting the Stingray club.
