They may be Oldies on the court but the Department of Sports feels they are goodies.
Honoring Women Month has its second netball spectacle scheduled for this weekend. The Oldies Netball Social is slated for the Truman Bodden Sports Complex netball courts on March 30 from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Department official and women’s coordinator Merta Day says the idea is to showcase older talent.
“The target participants for this social are past and present netball players, who must be age 45 or older,” Day said. “We’re inviting all past and present netballers to come out dressed to participate and have a fun evening.”
The social comes after last week’s Cayman Islands Netball Association ceremony that honored Governor Helen Kilpatrick as a patron of Cayman netball.
The event featured a parade of local youth teams, followed by a dance routine by George Town Primary School students and exhibition games featuring the Under-9 and Under-12 age groups. The highlight was a contest between All Stars netball club and the national women’s team headed to Calgary for the 2014 American Federation of Netball Associations championship. The event attracted dignitaries such as Cayman’s Minister of Sports Osbourne Bodden.
