Guardian General rebrands

Now known as Guardian Group

Caribbean insurer Guardian General Insurance Ltd., which trades in Cayman as NEMWIL, has rebranded to Guardian Group.

The Guardian Group brand was introduced in Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Jamaica and the Dutch Caribbean in July 2013. The event in the Cayman Islands last week at the National Gallery was the fourth of 10 rebranding efforts across the eastern and northern Caribbean this year.

The financial services and insurance group, which offers life and health insurance in addition to pension products, said it wants to focus on its core business in key markets under a unified brand, following numerous acquisitions in particular in property and casualty insurance across the Caribbean since the 1990s.

Guardian has been present in Cayman through NEMWIL agents Fidelity Insurance since 1990 and Balderamos Insurance Services Ltd. since 1996.

Marcia Romany, assistant vice president, Overseas Operations, for Guardian General said the Trinidad and Tobago-based group operates in all major markets in the English-speaking Caribbean and through its agents in almost all the islands of the region.

“The rebrand of the group allows us to take our client experience to a different level where we can now harness the value and stellar reputation of all our sister companies and the offering that they bring to their clients. So that when clients, for example, deal with Guardian Group anywhere, they know what we stand for,” she said.

The launch event, “Gearing for the future: Re-Branding and learning from Ivan,” along with a photo exhibition “Ivan Remembered” at the National Gallery, also recalled the effects of the 2004 hurricane and Guardian’s role in rebuilding the island. Following Hurricane Ivan, NEMWIL paid out nearly US$150 million in claims.

“Four years after, in 2008, we cemented our commitment to the Cayman Islands and officially launched our Guardian General Insurance Ltd. brand, however still trading as NEMWIL. Today, as we successfully compete in the cut and thrust of the market, it is critical that our clients see and identify us for what we are,”  Guardian General is rated A- (excellent) by rating agency A.M. Best.
