Ribbins ride raised $5k

A mass cycle ride in celebration of a late athlete raised almost $5,000 for Cayman HospiceCare.

As a follow up to last year’s inaugural 40th anniversary celebratory ride, more than 100 riders hit the road last month for the second annual Pete Ribbins Memorial Ride hosted by Cayman Water Company in honor of late general manager, Peter Ribbins, who was an active member of the Cayman sporting community.

The event, which consisted of two social rides over 10 kilometers and 40km, saw a big increase in participants from last year.

Both rides focused on roads around the Cayman Water Company, which provides water service along the Seven Mile Beach and West Bay areas.

Besides hosting the event, Cayman Water Company also matched the proceeds generated through registration and donations made by some of their customers, as well as Consolidated Water’s staff in their Cayman and Florida offices. A total of $4,967.10 raised in the event was subsequently presented to Cayman HospiceCare.

Cayman HospiceCare’s Jennifer Grant-McCarthy said, “Our team is so tremendously appreciative to know that this terrific event is now an annual one.

“Raising funds and awareness for Cayman HospiceCare only truly happens when the community works together like this, and Cayman Water Company and the event organizers have done a great job on both counts.”

John Tonner, Cayman Water Company’s chief operating officer, said, “We would also like to thank the Red Cross and the RCIPS for their assistance as well as the many local businesses who lent their support by providing giveaways for the post ride raffle.”
