Swim film on show

The Cayman Islands Amateur Swimming Association is showing “Touch the Wall” this weekend, a documentary film about American Olympians Missy Franklin and Kara Lynn Joyce.

It is on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Camana Bay’s Regal Theater and entry is $25 and includes snacks.

“Touch the Wall” follows two Olympic swimmers – the then 14-year-old Franklin, and two-time Olympian Joyce – as they prepare for the 2012 London Olympics.

Franklin is just beginning her career and is saddled with mile-high expectations. Joyce is trying to rediscover the form that earned her four Olympic silver medals and a world bronze medal.

Michael Lockwood, president of the swimming association, said: “‘Touch the Wall’ is a story of competition, commitment, and triumph through adversity. It’s also a story of family, of loving what you do, and having fun with the people around you.”

He said the film is likely to inspire not just young swimmers but anyone with a dream who is willing to work hard for it.
