23 youngsters were recognized for their exceptional artwork recently at at awards ceremony held at the National Gallery.
An annual tradition for Walkers and the National Gallery, this year’s Art@Governors competition proved to be a record year with over 250 entries in six age groups.
This year’s theme, Multi-Cultural Cayman, was chosen to depict the fact that there are presently 100 different nationalities residing in Cayman. The children had the opportunity to see the flags from various countries on display and in turn were asked to recreate the flag of their choice. They were encouraged to use a variety of materials such as paints, crayons, markers as well as glitter and tissue paper for texture. The goal was to make the exercise both educational and creative.
Judges Kiran Denis and Kushana Gentles, both staff of the National Gallery, deliberated for weeks over the 250 entries. After great consideration, the winners were chosen and invited to the awards ceremony hosted by Walkers’ Senior Investment Funds Partner, Mark Lewis and the National Gallery’s Director, Nancy Kirkaldy-Barnard.
