CIBC Bank & Trust Company (Cayman) Limited helped the Cayman Islands Human Society have a successful fundraising event last Friday with a donation of US$50,000 to the organisation.
Managing Director Ben Gillooly said the funds actually came from a charitable trust account administered by CIBC.
‘We were at the end of a structured asset vehicle that had funds remaining and we exercised our discretion in donating it to the Humane Society,’ he said.
Mr. Gillooly said CIBC supports the Humane Society’s efforts.
‘They have done a huge amount in terms of the spaying and neutering of animals and with education of animal welfare,’ he said.
The Humane Society’s annual fundraiser dinner and auction got started with a champagne reception and silent auction.
Before dinner, CIHS President Carolyn Parker spoke to the attendees.
‘It’s good to see every seat taken,’ she said, adding that the fundraiser was bound to be a success because of that even before CIBC announced its donation.
Ms Parker mentioned Cayman Horse Association’s Mary McTaggart, who was in attendance. ‘The Humane Society is not just about cats and dogs,’ she noted.
Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Andrew Bacon, who gave special recognition to former Humane Society President Guiseppe Gatta and his wife Susanne.
Mr. Bacon also served as auctioneer for the live auction after dinner.
During the evening, Kenneth Morgan – sometimes known as the Dog Whispered – showed what he had taught the dog called Sammy-Jo, which had been rescued from the Humane Society shelter.
The event’s major sponsors where also recognised during the evening with plaques, including the only platinum sponsor, Magnum Jewelers.
