With Sunset captain Thomas Elliot out injured, his team still showed their class by defeating Academy 2-0 in the Cayman Islands Island Football Association FA Cup last Saturday at the North Side playing field.
Sunset netted the two decisive goals as early as the third and fourth minute of the game off the boots of Chris Brown and Eric Brown (no relation).
Elliot, who is also Captain of the national football team, broke his ankle during a recent CIFA Foster’s National League game against Roma. Sunset went on to gain three points from that game by defeating Roma 2-1.
Elliot said that he was proud of his team and that result has definitely motivated him to bounce back as quickly as possible.
‘I am elated to have heard that my team is performing well, it gives me the urge to ensure that my recuperation is speedy and successful,’ Elliot said.
‘It is not a good feeling being out of the game I love so passionately but it’s a breath of fresh air to learn that my team has advanced to the next stage of this competition.’
With Future, Tigers and Academy out of the way, Elite, Bodden Town, George Town, Roma, Sunset, Scholars International, Latinos and East End will be in contention for the four semi-final places up for grabs.
