Authorities have come up empty in their search of a 240 foot cargo ship suspected of hauling drugs from Colombia to Cayman.
The vessel Mostein has been anchored in George Town harbour for about a week after it was first stopped in international waters. The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service said information was received on 17 April about the cargo barge bringing in a large quantity of illegal drugs.
Due to the craft’s size, the US Coast Guard was called in to assist in the search.
After a search which lasted several days, no illegal substances were found and no arrests were made.
The search was a joint operation conducted between the US Coast Guard, RCIPS and the Cayman Islands Customs and Excise Service.
