Ebanks refs in Aruba

Cayman Islands FIFA assistant referee Dwayne Ebanks is officiating in Group D of the Caribbean Football Union World Cup Under-20 Qualifiers this week at the Complago Guyllalmo Trinidad Stadium in Aruba.

This group includes hosts Aruba, St Kitts and Nevis, Dominica and Suriname and Aruba.

Ebanks was appointed a FIFA referee assistant last year. He has carved out a niche as one of the best assistants here.

He said: ‘It is every referee’s dream to perform at the highest level which is the World Cup. I love football and started out representing Cayman Islands as a youth player.

‘I have elevated myself to officiate in games and the sky will be the limit for me. I will be working with total strangers during this trip. I have one goal in mind and that is to do my best and make the Cayman Islands proud.’

Ebanks is working alongside FIFA referees Velman Bedeau and George Phillips (Grenada) and Bryan Willet (Antigua).

Alfredo Whittaker, President of the Cayman Islands Referee Association, said: ‘This is a great opportunity for Ebanks to prove himself. He is working alongside strangers in his field. It will certainly be a test for him to master it and go on to bigger games placing the Cayman Islands on the map.

‘He has what it takes to be successful and this is a great opportunity for him to make a statement of his own,’ Whittaker commented.

Ebanks will be working with FIFA Referee Kelvin Holder in Trinidad and Tobago soon.
