Caribbean Utilities Company, Ltd. (CUC) wishes to assure its customers that its hurricane preparation plan has been initiated in anticipation of the possible effects of Hurricane Paloma.
CUC’s payment offices at the West Shore Centre and administration building on North Sound Road are closed and these offices will remain closed until further notice.
If the island is affected by the storm, CUC will continue to supply power as long as it is safe to do so. However, if:
there is significant damage to our transmission and distribution system;
it becomes unsafe for our staff to maintain operations at our North Sound generation facility; or
we need to take action to preserve our equipment, it will be necessary to shut down our service for the duration of the storm and possibly until repairs are completed.
While CUC’s service infrastructure is designed to withstand winds of over 100 MPH, tree limbs or other debris that may come in contact with lines and other equipment may cause localized outages or equipment damage at lower wind speeds. As a result, customers should be prepared for outages. If there is an outage, please call the CUC hotline at 945-1282.
CUC will restore power as soon as it safe to do so.
CUC encourages customers to take all necessary precautions to protect themselves and their families.
Residents are reminded not to approach or touch downed power lines. If lines are down in your area, please call 911 first.
Customers should listen to local radio for regular updates on the status of our service.
