Taxi fares set for a reason

As a taxi driver I had to reply to the letter about making a deal with taxis..

I have a few questions for the writer to consider. How far did you go? How many people were there? How many stops were made? Although I don’t agree that taxi drivers should charge multiple fares for more than one stop to people who are together they are allowed to do this.

People have to realise that taxi drivers have to purchase there own vehicle, pay extremely high insurance premiums so that you, our passengers, are covered. God forbid there is an accident. Therre are higher licensing fees for our vehicles than anyone else. We as taxi drivers are making sure that you get home safe while we are vulnerable to any number of dangers on the roads. You don’t have a problem paying $5-$15 or even more for a drink or running up an obscenely high tab at the bar do you?

I know of many taxi drivers that give there regular customers discounts and this is because these people use them every day. I know there are a few dishonest drivers out there that take advantage of people but most people know who they are and avoid them, but the majority of taxi drivers are honest people who go by the book and make sure you are safe and comfortable and some that will wait that extra minute to make sure that you ladies that are alone get inside of your place of residence safely.

So please if you have a problem find a driver or drivers that you are comfortable with and use them regularly and I am sure that you will see a difference in your fares. Oh and consider this. If government hadn’t set these fares drivers would make up there own so if that fare wasn’t set it may have cost you a lot more. Thank you.
