Consider meters for taxis

I would like to say that the taxi fares on this Island are extremely over priced and I guess that is the government’s fault for coming up with this bizarre way of fare pricing.

Why don’t they just install meters that charge a set rate for each mile you travel and if stuck in traffic the meter ticks along accordingly.

This way there would be no arguments over fares and customers wouldn’t feel ripped off and the drivers wouldn’t have to justify the price.

So you know when a driver looks in their book for the rates sometimes it looks suspicious. There should also be a flat rate charge from one area to another like airport and such. I used to work at a hotel and took a taxi some nights home from work and every time the fare was a different price and varied from $5-$10 difference every single time.

It also shouldn’t matter how many people you have in the taxi or how many stops you make. See if there was a meter and I got out to go into a store the meter would keep ticking away until I got to my final destination. So put meters in, I think it would make everyone (drivers and customers) a lot happier!
