This weekend sees one of local
athletics most cherished meets.
On Saturday Cayman Islands Athletic
Association will be staging the 2010 renewal of the Truman Bodden track meet.
Naturally the Truman Bodden Sports
Complex will be the site for the racing starting at 9am.
The meet, which is sponsored by
noted attorney-at-Law, respected local politician and former MLA Truman Bodden,
has been staged for over 20 years and is the second major meet of the association’s
calendar.
Bodden has been an ardent supporter
of track and field for well in excess of two decades as well as of the association,
whom he has assisted in obtaining corporate sponsorship from other local
business houses.
With the Primary school football
season now at an end and the Inter-Primary Track and Field Championships now
looming, it is expected that there will be a swelling of local athletes
competing at this meet in preparation for the Carifta Games.
Athletes expected to participate at
this meet include a slew of Carifta Games prospects namely Chantelle Morrison,
Ashleigh Nalty, Gizelle Wright, Melinda McLean, Kristen Dixon, Anissa Owen,
Jahzenia Thomas, Alexandra Terry, Travis Webb, Mauricio Terry, Troy Long, Lloyd
Barker, Joseph Suberan, Vernon Kelly, Danielle Conolly, Mitchell Forbes and
Alex Pascal.
Also slated to compete are veterans
from past Championships such as Robert Ibeh, Rhymiech Adolphus, and Steven
Reid. Much interest will also be focused on the younger rising athletes such as
Shenelle Stewart, Jada Wright, Annikay Anderson and Caribbean
