An 18-year-old driver charged in connection with a deadly car accident on the Esterley Tibbetts Highway earlier this year has received a 15-month jail sentence.
Brooke Nowak has pleaded guilty to charges of causing by dangerous driving while under the influence of alcohol in the wreck that killed 24-year-old FederAnn Faustino of the Philippines.
The crash happened on 3 August when police said Nowak’s Land Cruiser swerved into the path of a Honda on the Esterley Tibbetts. Ms Faustino was a passenger in the vehicle and died shortly after the wreck.
Nowak was found to have 180 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres in her system – nearly twice the legal limit in the Cayman Islands.

Am I missing something???!! They sentence this lady to 15 months who caused DEATH! The other day when the 4 teenagers were sentenced to a few months jail plus probation everyone made a big stink!!! Now the same prosecutor in this case appealling that sentence. Why are they not appealling this one as well is my question! it was clear that this person was extremely intoxicated and caused death. So tell me what kind of Justice is being served in this particular case. Is it because this lady is the daughter of someone that is well known in the community?
No wonder Cayman is in the state it is in ,that has to be the biggest load of bulls… i have read in a long time ,it is a disgrace that a young womans life was taken and yet the drunkan Miss Nowak who chose to drive under the influence gets off with no more than a slap on the wrist ,and the victims family must feel they have had a slap in the face . The legal system here in Cayman leaves a lot to be desired. Brooke Nowak will do 2/3rds of this 15 month sentence come out and carry on with her life and if the repeated drunk drivers here are anything to go by ,she will most probably drink and drive again.Ms Faustino will do nothing ever again.
My sympathy goes to her heartbroken family and friends .
Young and pretty, helps.
