The Pirates 5k run/walk was a nice
introduction to sporting activities for the Pirates Week and there was no
surprise who the winner was. It was run from the Bayshore Mall, along South
Church Street and back.
Triathlete Ray Welds did not have
to extend himself too much, winning two seconds ahead of Mark Hogan in 18
minutes and 8 seconds. Hogan was closing the gap at the end but never really
threatened Welds earlier on. It was a fine run by Hogan though because he was
still suffering from the effects of running just over 3 hours at the New York
Marathon a few days earlier.
James Ogden was third in 18.42 and
Krissy Dooling was first woman home and fourth overall in 18.48. Next to finish
were Richard Barber in 19.03, Carl Grant 19.08 and Andrew Ibeh in 19.10. Laura
Knox was second female to finish in 20.13 and then Emily Davies 21.14.
